Week 11: Never Cry Wolf and Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey

Never Cry Wolf ( 1983)

nevercrywolfThis story is of a biologist who is left in the Canadian arctic alone to find out why the caribou population dwindle (thought was wolves hunting them). It turns out the wolves are the ones being hunted, the biologist begins to learn more them and the Inuit people of the area about survival and the land itself. This movie is credited with the Foundation of Touchstone Pictures, Disney’s more adult-oriented production company.

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)

homewardboundThis was a favorite childhood movie of my sister and I. It is a cat and two dogs who are left on a farm while their family takes a trip to San Francisco. The pets believe themselves to be abandoned and decide to find their humans, leading to a journey that is truly incredible. Because of its critical and box office success the film was also followed by a sequel, Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco.

Week 10: Lady and the Tramp and Best in Show

Lady and the Tramp ( 1955)

One of the most romantic childhood movies about a Cocker Sladyandthetramppaniel and a Mutt who fall for one another? This movie had a incredible box office success when it was released in 1955 and contains one of the most memorable date scenes in movie history. Critics panned it for its animation style, not realizing how large its scope would be in now a days shows such as Simpsons use similar style.

Best in Show (2000)

bestinshow.jpgThis could possibly be the best of director Christopher Guests mockumentary-style films. Best in Show tells the story of several hopefuls who all want their dogs winning the Blue ribbon at the most prestigious dog show in the nation. The characters and the dogs will have you falling over laughing. The film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews and won several awards, despite having a small box office opening and gross.
